Monday is up there on my least of favourites days of the week. Regardless of how organised I am on Sunday evening, everything is a struggle the next morning, from getting out bed to enduring the day at work. My journey home begins with a 30-minute walk (short break at nursery to pick up the little one) where I usually sing to myself – I check for other pedestrians first of course! I am not that crazy! And so Music Monday came into existence. A chance to reflect on what a particular song means to me and maybe introduce others to different sounds along the way.
Our God – Chris Tomlin
This had to be my first choice for the series. The lyrics showcase the amazing God we serve. He is greater and stronger than anything else we put our trust in. The part that really strikes me is:

It reminds me of the later part of Romans 8:31 – If God is for us, who can be against us? My parents had a framed picture of this verse in our hallway while I was growing up and it has stuck with me ever since. Whenever I am going through a difficult situation, this is the first verse that comes to mind – which leads to me singing this song and being overwhelmed by peace. Even at less troublesome times, there’s an inexplicable elation in my heart as I’m reminded that God was, is and will always be there for me and my family.
You can listen to the full rendition here. Don’t worry, you won’t have to endure my singing – it’s the actual artist live!
